This web-site has been designed to act as a support mechanism for students taking part in our case studies, but also as a means of demonstrating to other institutions how our case studies operate. As a student, you will find each case study listed under your course title with details of structure, format, aims and objectives. In addition to this, useful references and website links are also provided. Our case studies incorporate a variety of skills, i.e. group working, oral presentations, written work and poster presentations. To help you understand and develop these skills, you will also find sections providing information and tips. Finally, there is a section that provides details on assessment levels and what is expected of you in your case study learning.

The development of our case studies and this web-site has been made possible by funding from the Institute of Learning and Teaching (ILT). In June 2001 Dr Claire Davis, a senior lecturer here at the Department of Metallurgy and Materials, was awarded a National Teaching Fellowship (NTF). 20 NTF awards are made each year (since 2000) to lecturers in any Higher Education discipline. Dr Davis has used her award to develop this web-site and also to develop and examine our case study learning.
